Client due diligence

Client due diligence, evidenced.

Verify the company, identify who really owns and controls it, and keep a dated record with the official source for every fact — the corporate half of your CDD file.

Free to check · No card needed · Official Companies House data
If your firm is supervised for anti-money-laundering — by a professional body such as ICAEW or ACCA, or registered with HMRC — you must apply customer due diligence when you take on a new client, and identify the beneficial owner behind any corporate customer. The obligation is not optional, and the evidence has to survive a supervisor asking to see it. Verivello does the corporate half: it establishes exactly which registered entity you are dealing with, who owns and controls it, and produces a dated record citing the official source for every fact.

What Verivello gives your CDD file

The right legal entity

Company number, incorporation date, registered office, type and current status — so the client on your file is the entity you think it is, not a similarly named company.

Beneficial owners identified

Persons with Significant Control from the official register, including corporate PSCs where control sits with a parent, plus every officer and their identity verification status.

Signals for enhanced scrutiny

Sanctions screening, disqualified directors, insolvency notices, overdue filings and mass-registration addresses — the factors that tell you a file needs more work.

A record that keeps

A dated PDF citing the official source for each fact. Records must be kept for five years; a shareable file beats a screenshot in a folder.

Frequently asked

Does Verivello do full AML client due diligence?

No, and it is important to be precise. CDD on an individual requires verifying identity documents — a passport or driving licence — which Verivello does not do. Verivello covers the corporate side: which legal entity you are dealing with, who owns and controls it, its filings, and the risk signals on the public record. Most firms pair that with a separate ID-verification step for the people.

Who has to do client due diligence?

Broadly, firms supervised under the Money Laundering Regulations — including accountancy service providers, whether supervised by a professional body such as ICAEW or ACCA, or registered with HMRC. Check your own supervisor’s guidance for what your file must contain.

When does CDD apply?

When you establish a new business relationship, when a client’s circumstances change materially, if you become suspicious, or where you are uncertain about identification. Ongoing monitoring is also required — you can set free filing alerts so a change reaches you rather than being missed.

What about beneficial owners?

UK companies must record their Persons with Significant Control — broadly anyone holding more than 25% of shares or voting rights, or otherwise exercising significant influence. Verivello reports the PSCs on the register, including where control sits with a parent company.

How long do records need to be kept?

Five years is the standard requirement under the regulations. Verivello reports are dated PDFs with the official source for every fact, so they can go straight into the client file.

Is this legal or compliance advice?

No. Verivello provides factual information from official public registers so you can make your own assessment. It does not tell you whether a client is acceptable, and it is not a substitute for your firm’s policies or your supervisor’s guidance.
